Never the Twain... Day 96, Part 2

Walk: R/T Mindful Body Distance: 8 blocks and 2 yoga classes

Still trying to process NYC. Meanwhile, what do these music men have in common?

Phil Lesh

Bob Weir

Cole Porter

Answer: Basically nothing except music and the fact that I went to musical events by all of them in New York. . The first two are California, Grateful Dead, now Furthur. The last man is New York, Broadway, Anything Goes. There isn't a fit, an assimilation except the most tangential. And that's how I feel about New York and San Francisco. Assimilating, melding San Francisco and New York in my mind just doesn't happen. There are ways I can kind of slide over from San Francisco to other places - Minneapolis, Sun Valley, DC, Portland, etc. But New York stands alone; it is an energetic entity unto itself.

Anything Goes, the Broadway play, music and lyrics by Cole Porter

Furthur, the bus that transported The Grateful Dead, Ken Kesey, etc in the 60's and is the namesake of original members' Bob Weir and Phil Lesh's group.
