Walk: Mindful Body
Distance: 8 blocks and teach yoga class
The 'new' front yoga room is a little better but the cd player still has a mind of its own. Refusing some cd's, playing other, "happy" ones to sound like dirges. After class a few errands then home to answering email questions from students and exploring Expedia re: that possible Jeopardy/Alex trip. Lots of Saturday sitting/deskwork preparing for triple header tomorrow: Cinema Club, Moby Dick (the Opera), and Go GIANTS tomorrow evening.
PS -- Thanks again Rich for my personal video from Alex.

Indian Drizzle --- Day 287
Walk: Clay Theater/Laurel/Food Inc
Distance: 2 miles and a little yoga at home
Funny, unexpected day around the Bay today. Yesterday there were articles and TV reports about the glorious hot weather we were going to have all weekend until the rains and cold arrive Monday. So, with thoughts of hikes, summer clothes and deck projects in mind, we went to bed to wake up this morning to cold, grey, drizzle that has lasted all day and now into early evening. What?
So, I caught up with a few e-mail errands, even got a ticket for Furthur, did yoga at home, didn't walk much except to join a cousin at Argo (again!). And even the second time, it was excellent. Early dinner with same cousin and now home to cheer on the Giants. An interior, grey, Fall day which suited me better than the Indian Summer predicted. Hope it went well for others as well..

Meds: Fuzzy Would Be Fabulous --- Day 286
Walk: Just to car, errands and back
Distance: 6 blocks or so
I lot of people I know have success with meds/antidepressants. So, recently I thought "Why not give them a try?" And, starting Monday I took half of what is the absolute lowest dose of the current 'can't miss' med. A few glitchy things happened - dry mouth, headache, that sort of thing. Liveable. Well, by Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 when I teach a regular class, I could barely teach. I'd get to some point in the routine, and blank on what I'd done, what came next. That happens to most teachers (often). But what was new this Tuesday was that I, the teacher, Did Not Care.
My mind and emotions were essentially blank. A small voice kept trying to coach me: "Stay present, pull yourself together, Keep going.." The teensy coach pressed on: "Make some jokes, keep this enjoyable for them," and somehow I did and got through the class (reported to be good). But the larger zombie part of me kept saying things like "Huh?" "Do I really have to speak?"
Wednesday was even worse. I got together with a friend and just sort of wandered around with her. We went to a furniture showroom, and I had trouble bothering to remember names like 'chair' or 'fabric.' You can imagine what figuring out - or caring - what to eat for lunch was like. Fuzzy would have been Mensa level compared to where I was.
I didn't tell anyone and can't be sure what -if anything - they thought. Today I decided this was quite enough information, ended the 3-day experiment and already feel significantly more alive. Guess my little ups and downs only qualify for 'Retail Therapy.' Yay!
Just reporting in in case this information would be interesting/helpful to anyone.

Debate 2 --- Day 284
Walk: JCC., TJoe's. Mindful Body
Distance: 30 blocks, take yoga class, 10 minutes on treadmill, give yoga class
Presidential Debate #2. Kind of a command performance for voters, so I'll at least have it on if not watching every moment intently. Personally I'm looking forward to getting past the election.

Furthur/NYE - Good Luck --- Day 283
Walk: PPMC (semi-annual lab work), JCC, TJoe's, Mindful Body
Distance: 3 miles, yoga class and 30 minutes on treadmill
So Saturday Furthur finally announced their New Year's Eve Run in San Francisco:

Got the email in my inbox and carefully read the instructions:
Pre Sales Via Mail Order and Internet Pre-Sales @ 9:00am PST/Noon EST on Monday, October 15 through 3:00pm PST/6:00pm EST on Thursday, October 18.
Public On Sale: Friday, October 19 at 10:00am PST
This morning 9:00 was the first chance to order, and I was right there at my computer at 9. There were a few log in glitches, so I didn't actually get on until 9:10. When I got there this is what I saw:
NEWS FLASH: PRESALES FOR ALL SAN FRANCISCO SHOWS ARE NOW SOLD OUT
10 Minutes!!!! and they were all gone for all three shows - $55 asking with no processing fees. So if I can get my hands on any this Friday at 10, they'll be coming from the scalpers and pros for who knows how much. Now that I'm a teenager I can see the angst all these concerts cause....

The Other Dream Team --- Day 281
Walk: Mindful Body, Embarcadero Cinema (The Other Dream Team), Fillmore Street
Distance: 4 miles and teach yoga class
Made it through the first day in the front yoga room. Guess it was fine for people; it's going to take me a while though. Sort of like throwing a party but at someone else's house and kitchen. Disconcerting.
But afterward was able to walk downtown on a Beautiful sunny fall afternoon and go to The Other Dream Team, a movie with a story so big and deep the documentary filmmaker played it totally straight with old footage and many interviews - no bombast. So wrenching and soulfelt to the Lithuanian basketball players that even decades later they cannot or will not speak at length about the bloody turmoil and repression in their country and the magnitude of emotion that surrounds their final freedom from Soviet Russia.
I won't summarize except to say go if you like documentaries, freedom, basketball and/or The Grateful Dead. As CIWT readers know, I am a deadhead who arrived very late on the scene but have picked up on the ever expansive energy the of The Dead. I sat beside a true Deadhead couple at a concert a few years ago, and she put it the way many heads feel: "It's like going to church." The PR is and always has been Drugs, LSD - which is and was absolutely accurate. But the feeling surrounding The Dead at the concerts and conversationally is actually an admixture of peace, joy, freedom, spirit and deep respect for music. As a group and individually The Dead has always contributed to their world but you don't see them out there on any individual ego trip. Individually and in variousDead-based groups, they are there to bring the music and the moment, to keep bringing the Dead music into the now with ever-evolving renditions. Hard to describe, but it seemed exactly right to see the Lithuanians receiving their Bronze Medals at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics proudly wearing their tie dye uniforms; The Dead and that team were/are in total harmony, and the energy of it all just keeps flowing.
