Flyover -- Please --- Day 5/230

Ciwt joins the many San Franciscans who breathe a sigh of relief when the annual  Fleet Week/Blue Angels Flying Exhibition is safely over.  The stunts may look - and are - impressive, but they are supersonic-strafe loud, low to the rooftops and other structures, and, oh yes, executed right over the city.  A U.S. Navy Blue Angels F-18 jet, piloted by Lt. Cmdr. Scott Ind, flies near the south tower of the Golden Gate Bridge, Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, in San Francisco.  Two more days to go....

Golf Links --- Day 5/227

Walk: Hood
Distance: 4 miles, Home Yoga

They Like Me; They Really Like Me.  Or something like that.  Oh, dear, thinks Ciwt.  This is her second - or is it third? - announcement to her provisional golf club that she won't be continuing.  And...her third offer from them to extend.  She's Not trying to make this happen...

How Far You Say? --- Day 5/226

Walk: Monday Errands and Haircut
Distance: 3.1 miles (to the footfall)

Image result for watchbird watching you

Did you know your iphone has a pedometer?  Ciwt didn't until a week ago, and according to her phone, she's actually been walking farther than her CIWT guesstimates.  Or is it further? Further/Farther, one of those grammar games that can hook Ciwt's mind after a whole (rainy!!!) day of little errands.

Yoga Time --- Day 5/225

Walk: No, watchng Ryder Cup
Distance: 0, Home Yoga

Image result for doing yoga for half hour every day

Maybe Ciwt is like the woman in the front here, going one way when the yoga crowd goes another. But after years of doing and teaching 90 minute yoga classes, she began finding that 30 minutes of yoga worked well for her personal practice.

At first she felt guilty, a bit strange and contrary, so she paid attention.  Back? Check.  Legs?  Check.
Rhythmic breathing? Check.  Standing, Seated, Lying Down, Twisting?  Check, check,...She addressed all the important parts of herself including her sense of "completeness," and, almost always she had reached that point in 30 minutes.  Or sooner.

And it worked so easily: at home, whenever she felt like practicing, wearing whatever she felt like, same with hair/looks - on a daily basis.  Usually it also felt right to do a (whole!) hour or more once or twice a week.  But that took more time, and half an hour daily doing the poses that called to her was - and is - totally workable.  No talking herself into that half hour, putting it off, feeling guilty.  If it just lasted 5-10 minutes, well, okay - she was still getting healthful yoga benefits.

For a (bit of) lifelong exercise addict, this was unnerving for Ciwt at first.  She waited for her clothes to stop fitting, or anxiety, sleeplessness or overall lack of fitness and inability to climb the stairs to her home to set in.

No.

Then she began noticing that some of her big name teacher contemporaries and correspondents - ones who gave teacher trainings and produced best-selling videos - were (quietly) referring to 10-15-30 minute home practices.

Makes sense to Ciwt, although she wouldn't have thought so a few years ago, and would have thought such thinking was essentially weird, even dangerous, when she was young.

PS - Walking is still Ciwt's 'thing' - maybe yours is swimming, bike riding/spinning, or...

Ciwt's (And Your) Gigantic Garden --- Day 5/224

Walk: Presidio
Distance: 6.5 miles, Home Stretch

Remember when Ciwt was feeling sorry for herself because she didn't have her very own marvelous garden?  (See CIWT Fantasy Gardening 2/133 if it doesn't jump immediately to mind).

Well today, after over 35 years living right next to the Presidio and walking it often, she stumbled on a good 50 acres of groomed wilderness paths, glorious views, flocks and flocks of white pelicans, a coyote den (according to the signs), grazing goats, solitude and then a world class art exhibit* right near the world class Golden Gate Bridge.  At no point was she further than 2 miles from her home. AND, she still doesn't have to do anything to maintain any of it.

* Perhaps more later.  She went out today expecting a short little hike, so now her legs and feet are saying "Rest!"
