Robert Redford plays Our Man in 'All is Lost'    (Completely amazing hair - still. No wig here!)


Bruce Dern plays Woody Grant in 'Nebraska'  (Completely amazing hair in another sense.  This is
                                                                     the best it looked in the entire b&w movie).

Both men definitely deserve their Best Actor nominations to date with more to come I'm sure.

I remember walking out of Lawrence of Arabia, age teen-something, stunned, thinking that is the truest, most profound biography ever on the screen. And equally, that is the most beautiful man I have ever seen.  Many years later those conclusions still stand.

Temporarily Frozen Kids ---- Day 2/336

Walk: Mindful Body, Vogue Theater
Distance: 18 blocks and teach yoga class

Slipped into Frozen this mid-afternoon.  Walking down the aisle, ah oh, tons of kids standing or sitting in their seats, wandering the theater, having fake fights with their friends, tugging at their parents sleeves.  Trouble I thought.  I'd forgotten it was a Disney animated movie.

But not to worry.  There wasn't a peep when the movie started.  Not a peep.  Kudos to the film makers who seem to understand just how to rivet kids' attention. And adult's attention too. Ciwt really liked all that childhood innocence stuff and fabulous animation, and, at the end it was the adults who were clapping.  For Frozen, not just because their kids had been completely quiet and absorbed for a couple of hours - at least I think it was for Frozen.

Callie to the Topic Rescue -- Day 2/335

Walk: Jackson Square, Mindful Body
Distance: 2 miles and take yoga class

Still getting ready to write more on the Thiebaud show (see 2/233).  But can't find the moment so just hanging with Callie until the time arrives.

Early Dusk Between Two Bridges --- Day 2/334

Walk: Fillmore Street (car pick up), a v. little to/from various errands
Distance: 10 Blocks

Some things to say but Ciwt's brain goes down early with the winter evening sun.







PS -- As hoped, SAD is going well this first and fine year. (See Day 2/318)  Heart out to others though. Thinking of you. There is hope. 

Some Thiebaud Memories --- Day 2/233

Walk: North Beach, Paul Thiebaud Gallery, Art Institute
Distance: 5 miles and take yoga class

Ciwt went to a gallery 'show' of Wayne Thiebaud's art today in North Beach and was rather surprised to see his subject matter: mountains (?!).

But, images aside, there in the show was the felt presence, the vestigial memory of the entirety of Theibaud's work.  It was there in the lush brushwork, the gorgeous, rich colors, the finely rendered graphics, the striving to capture timeless essences. And it was right there in the name of the show, which Theibaud, at age 93, entitled Memory Mountains.
